Description

The support services offered in the Masters course to students consist of several activities to meet a range of different needs making the reCity EJMC more accessible and successful.
The reCity EJMC is an European programme on the higher education excellence focused on mobility, but studying in a new country can be a daunting experience. We understand that, so we work hard to make you feel welcome when you arrive. As part of your induction to FISD we run a Welcome programme and a series of events designed to help you settle in and to make new friends. The Welcome Programme includes practical information sessions as well as social activities. The Welcome Programme is a great way to meet new people, begin settling into the reCity EJMC, learn about life in Europe, notably Italy.

Counselling unit give students the provision of assistance and guidance in resolving personal, social, or psychological problems and difficulties, esp. by a professional. The programme offers students a personal tutor, 1:1 tutorial support as well as support of small group working. The Liaison Secretariat provides a comprehensive range of support services to students which include: residential / student finance advice / careers advise / study skills development / IT learning resources. This unit is composed of many activities, that complete the reCity Master Course curriculum:
  • Welcome. During the early week the start of the Master Course, is scheduled a Welcome Week, in which several activities and events will be held to render the inclusion into a new social and learning context more enjoyable. The main purpose of the Welcome Week is the socialisation of individuals in the group, promoting the exchange of information on personal experiences and expectations. The activity engages the director, the coordinators, the members of the Steering Committee, the tutors, some teachers, psychologists and Liaison Secretariat staff. The welcoming activity of the students focuses on the skills assessment, entering in the course as an active methodology guidance; presentation of the contents and objectives of the curriculum, of the services, of the evaluation and certification procedures, of the support to elaborate individualised pathways. It comes to end with the sign of a Student Agreement, as a tool to identify, highlight and agree the expectations of the individual regarding the training offer, the commitments of the Consortium and his partners involved in the ReCity EJMC, in terms of professional skills when the students go out from the course and services offered when the course is running. As sample of social integration events scheduled, there is a meeting with officials from the local Social Services Office. Moreover, the FISD organises some meetings with public security officials to acquire some knowledge regarding rules and behaviour suggested in European Countries.
Furthermore, there are scheduled some meetings to introduce students to the concept of workplace safety as a value, reducing ergonomics injuries and preventing workplace accidents and illnesses.
Last, a “Welcome Day” is organised for every period of mobility, which is a day of welcome at the various Universities in which the students are hosted.
  • Guidance. The reCity EJMC curriculum employs nontraditional techniques and methods that new students may not be familiar with. In this studio course, students are introduced to the skills and capacities needed to succeed in the reCity Masters course, such as working as a group, effective interpersonal communication etc. During the guidance activities, an expert psychologist will be available to students for individual and group meetings. The psychologist will follow students for the duration of the Masters periodically, even in the period of mobility. Furthermore the psychologist and tutors will motivate the students to actively follow the reCity EJMC as a demanding post-graduate course in a foreign country, to empower her/his chances to conclude the Masters course successfully. During Guidance will be implemented an Individual Skills Assessment-ISA and a Personal Development Planning-PDP. PDP is a reCity Masters course requirement to engage students formally in reflective practice, through a learning log or a professional development portfolio. This includes creating and maintaining a continuously updated CV, a review of progress in formative units, review of assessment outcomes and feedback, a semester based action plan and an annual submission of the PDP.
